Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven Susan Janise Houston, 74, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Memphis. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 4:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven. Bro. Al Canon will officiate. Interment will follow at Autumn Woods Memorial Park. Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven is handling the arrangements. Susan was a gracious, warm-hearted woman whose deep and abiding faith in God guided her life. She had a genuinely caring spirit, an outgoing personality, and a way of making those around her feel welcome and loved. She faced life’s challenges with quiet strength and always seemed to find resolve, even in difficult situations. She embraced life with joy, staying active, and always tried to make the most of each day. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, including shopping, dining out, and spending time outdoors. She especially loved visiting the Memphis Zoo, where she was an annual member. She also enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and squirrels, going fishing, and traveling to the mountains. Susan adored her beloved cats, Sheba and Katy, who brought her comfort, companionship, and joy over the years. Above all, family was the heart of Susan’s world. She cherished her devoted husband, Jerry, and the 55 years of love and partnership they shared. She held a special place in her heart for her father and carried that bond with deep affection throughout her life. Susan adored her children, Heather and Jerry Neal Jr., and took great pride in the lives they built. She loved gathering with her grandchildren to celebrate birthdays, holidays, and every achievement. Her unwavering love, generosity, faith, and vibrant spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Houston is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Houston, Sr., of Memphis, TN; her children, Heather Byrd and her husband Jason of Olive Branch, MS, and Jerry Neal Houston, Jr., and his wife Summer of Southaven, MS; her grandchildren, Jacob Byrd, Alyssa Byrd, Michael Houston, Zachary Houston, and Presley Houston; her siblings, Robert Hartley, Jr., Linda Larsen, Wendy Cain, Courtnay Gibbons, Michael Cain, Bill Cain, and James Cain. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. Hartley, Sr.; mother, Doris Walker Hartley; step-mother, Patty Hartley; and her sister, Teri Hartley.
