Wayne Carl Hallberg

Wayne Carl Hallberg, beloved husband, father, Poppy, brother, and friend, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, selflessness, and boundless love. A visitation will be held Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service immediately following at 12:00 p.m., both at Longview Point Baptist Church (1100 McIngvale, Hernando, MS.) Interment will be at a later date in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven is honored to have charge of the arrangements. Wayne dedicated his career as an aircraft mechanic with FedEx, where his deep love for airplanes was evident to everyone around him. His passion for aviation was more than a job—it was a lifelong fascination that brought him great joy. A proud veteran, Wayne served his country honorably in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. His love for his country remained strong throughout his life. In 1976, Wayne accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, a decision that shaped the rest of his life. He was a faithful member of Longview Point Baptist Church in Hernando, where his love for the Lord was evident in both word and action. His faith guided him to live a life marked by kindness, humility, and service to others. Wayne was a wonderful provider and a deeply devoted family man. He especially loved spending time with his wife, often taking simple day trips or heading out together just to enjoy lunch. These moments, though simple, were among his most treasured. Known for his generous and giving spirit, Wayne was always willing to chauffeur family, friends, and especially his grandchildren wherever they needed to go. He could often be found patiently waiting in the parking lot while his loved ones shopped, never complaining—just happy to be there for them. Wayne had a gift for humor and was always ready with a corny joke or classic “dad joke” to bring a smile to those around him. His lighthearted nature made him a joy to be around. His most cherished role in life was being “Poppy.” Wayne adored his grandchildren and was a constant presence in their lives—attending their events, caring for them, and making each one feel deeply loved. He was always there, steady and dependable, offering encouragement and support. In his free time, Wayne enjoyed golfing. But more than anything, he loved being with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Patti S. Hallberg of Horn Lake, MS; his two daughters, Wendy Leigh (Larry) Cox and Jeanine Nichole (John) Burnside both of Hernando; his six grandchildren, Morgan (Jon) Gaines of Nesbit, MS; Mallary Cox, Trey Burnside, Crockett Burnside, Manning Cox and Lennon Burnside all of Hernando; his great grandson, Jude Gaines of Hernando; his brother, Gene (Nikki) Hallberg and many friends and extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ellen Hallberg; and his two sisters, Geraldine Bramer and Joanne Fischer.
