Angela "Ms. Gregg" Denise Brown Burnett

Angela Denise Brown Burnett “Ms. Gregg”, 53, passed away Friday, July 31, 2026 in Alabama. A visitation will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven (626 Star Landing Road East, Southaven, MS 38672), with a funeral service following at noon. Burial will be in DeSoto Memorial Gardens (630 Star Landing Road East, Southaven, MS 38672). Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven has charge of arrangements. Ms. Gregg will be remembered as a devoted mother, dedicated educator, and fearless woman whose greatest joy was her family and whose life's work touched countless students. A loving mother and grandmother, Angela believed that a strong family was built through love, structure, and time spent together. Family dinners around the dining room table were a cherished tradition in her home, where conversations were shared, values were taught, and lasting memories were made. She poured herself into every aspect of her children's lives, especially their athletic endeavors. Never one to miss a game or tournament, and always pushed her children to do everything to the best of their ability. Angela was the loudest parent on the ball field and their biggest cheerleaders in whatever they did. Teaching was more than a career—it was Angela's calling. During her distinguished 25-year career with DeSoto County Schools, she inspired generations of students with her passion for learning and unwavering commitment to their success. She began her career teaching fourth grade at Hope Sullivan Elementary School before moving to sixth grade at DeSoto Central Middle School, while also coaching the dance team. She later taught ninth grade at Hernando High School and concluded her remarkable career teaching ninth grade at Southaven High School until her retirement. An exceptional educator, Angela was respected by her colleagues, admired by her students, and remembered for the genuine care and encouragement she extended to everyone who entered her classroom. Angela possessed a fearless spirit and an adventurous heart. Though she valued tradition and family, she was also spontaneous, embracing life's opportunities with enthusiasm and optimism. Nowhere was she happier than standing barefoot on the sugar-white sands of the Alabama Gulf Coast. Gulf Shores was her favorite place in the world, and every vacation there renewed her spirit. She often said her dream was to retire near the beach, where she could feel the warm sand beneath her toes and listen to the waves. Five years ago, she fulfilled that lifelong dream by moving to Foley, Alabama with her husband just minutes from the Gulf she loved so dearly. Angela is survived by her husband, John Burnett of Foley, AL; her daughter, Anna Kate “A.K.” Gregg Gatlin (Dylan) of Southaven, MS; her son, Andrew “Drew” Liberto (Katie) of Southern Pines, NC; her mother, Denise Hill of Southaven; her granddaughter, Ayla Gatlin of Southaven; her grandson, Scout Liberto of Southern Pines; her grandmother, Nancy “Maw” Hardin of Southaven; her half-brother, Terry Brown, Jr. of MO; her stepsons, Joseph “Tyler” Burnett (Ali) of Memphis, TN and Ben (Hanna) Burnett; her step daughter, Kate Burnett; and her three step granddaughters, Riley Burnett, Charlotte Burnett, and Lainey Burnett; many friends, beloved former students and a host of extended family members. Angela was preceded in death by her father, Terry Brown, Sr., her maternal grandfather, Bobby Hardin, and her step grandfather, Pawpaw, Harold “Skip” Hill. Angela's life was one of service, love, and unwavering devotion—to her family, her students, and the values she held dear. Her kindness, strength, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons she taught, the lives she shaped, and the love she gave will continue to live on in all who had the privilege of knowing her.
