Billy Charles Smith, 82, of Nesbit, Mississippi, passed away on February 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, service, and song that will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew him. Born on June 6, 1943, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Billy lived a life anchored in purpose. From the very beginning, his life was marked by devotion — devotion to God, to his family, and to serving others with humility and conviction. Billy was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a steadfast provider whose family was always his first ministry. His love for his wife, Jean Smith, and his pride in his children and grandchildren were evident in the way he spoke, the way he prayed, and the way he showed up — consistently, faithfully, and selflessly. Billy proudly served his country in the United States Navy, carrying that same sense of duty and honor into every chapter of his life. More importantly, he answered a higher calling — serving the Lord for over 40 years as an ordained Bishop in the Church of God of Prophecy. His ministry was not confined to the pulpit; it lived in his actions, his counsel, his leadership, and the countless lives he shepherded with wisdom, truth, and love. One of Billy’s greatest joys was worship. He had a deep love for music and a passion for singing for the glory of God — whether with his family, his church family, or anyone who loved the Lord. His voice was more than melody; it was testimony. Through song, Billy praised, encouraged, and reminded others of God’s faithfulness. Known for his quick wit and confident leadership, Billy never hesitated to step forward when called upon. He led with strength, clarity, and compassion, always grounded in faith. He also loved the game of golf — fiercely competitive, yet always willing to teach, encourage, and pass along the game to those eager to learn. Whether on the course or in life, Billy believed in mentoring, guiding, and lifting others up. Billy is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Smith; his three sons, Donnie Smith and his wife Deborah Smith, Lee Smith and his wife Audrey Smith, and Jody Smith and his wife Zoe Smith; and his cherished grandchildren, Taylor Smith (wife Olive Smith), Aaron Smith (wife Anna Smith), Kelsey O’Neal (husband Dalton O’Neal), Caitlyn Smith (fiance David Gross), and Desirea Thurman (husband Chaz Thurman). He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. He is survived by his brothers, Tommy Smith and Ronnie Smith, and his sister, Fay Herring. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Smith and Juanita Smith, whom he now joins in eternal rest. A memorial service to celebrate Billy’s life will be held at 2:00pm Friday, February 13, 2026, at The Summit Church, 2701 Highway 51 N, Nesbit, MS 38651. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service from 12:00-2:00pm. Interment will follow the memorial service at Coleman Funeral Home, 626 Star Landing Rd E, Southaven, MS 38672.
