In Loving Memory of Corey Sean Akins Beloved Son, Brother, Friend, and Champion #701 – Forever in Our Hearts Corey Sean Akins , beloved Son, Brother, Friend and Champion, 31, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Olive Branch, MS. A visitation will be held Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m., both at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven (626 Star Landing Road, East, Southaven, MS 38672). Interment will be held at DeSoto Memorial Gardens (630 Star Landing Road East, Southaven, MS 38672). Brother Al Canon will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven is in charge of arrangements. Corey lived life wide open—on two wheels, on horseback, by the campfire, and in every moment with those he loved. With a heart as vast as the trails he raced, Corey had an incredible gift with animals—he loved them deeply, and they loved him right back. Whether it was a loyal dog, a powerful horse, or a creature met in the woods, they all seemed to know that Corey was a kindred spirit. He was a fierce competitor in the world of motocross, proudly riding under the number 701. Corey earned his place as the King of the Hill Series Champion, collecting trophies and accolades, but it was his grit, passion, and joy on the track that made him unforgettable. Off the track, he was just as unstoppable—swinging a baseball bat, riding horses, casting a fishing line, or sitting around a fire under the stars, spinning tales that earned him the nickname “Story Corey.” His stories could make you laugh until you cried, and think long after the fire went out. More than anything, Corey was deeply spiritual. He carried a strong love for God in his heart, and that faith guided him in everything he did. He lived with purpose, compassion, and a light that touched everyone lucky enough to know him. Corey wasn’t just a racer—he was a rider in the truest sense. He rode for the thrill, the freedom, the beauty of the world, and the stories yet to be told. Though he has taken his final ride here on Earth, we know his spirit races on, free and fearless. Corey leaves his loving parents, Danny and Lynn Akins of Olive Branch, MS; his sister, Lindsay White of Hernando, MS; his pets, Jax, Lyla and River; many friends; and extended family to cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John R. and Lottie Bernice Pickard; and his paternal grandparents, Willie James and Ara Lynn Akins.
