John G. Whitsett

Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven John Gerry Whitsett, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Oakland, MS, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, service and love. Born in Rogersville, Alabama, he was the beloved son of the late John William Whitsett and Oleta Whitsett. A proud Navy veteran, John carried the values of service and commitment throughout his life. In 1968, alongside his late wife, Martha Carol Whitsett, he founded Insulation and Refractories Services, Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee – a business he dedicated himself to until his well-earned retirement. His faith was important cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member of Oakland Baptist Church. John was also a valued member of the Masonic Lodge, where he built lasting friendships and upheld cherished traditions. Funeral services to honor his memory will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 12:00 p.m., both at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven (626 Star Landing Road, East, Southaven, MS 38672). Bro. Jimmy Hood will officiate. The committal will be held at Memphis Memory Gardens (6444 Raleigh LaGrange Road, Memphis, TN 38134) where he will be laid to rest. Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven is in charge of arrangements. John leaves behind a loving family who will continue to cherish his wisdom, warmth, and unwavering kindness. He is survived by his son, John W. Whitsett and his wife Kathey, of Nesbit, MS; his daughter, Denise Whitsett, of Olive Branch, MS; his cherished grandchildren, Brooke Berry DeFranco (Matt), of Goodlettsville, TN and Beth Berry Marshall (Brian), of Lake Cormorant, MS; and his precious great-grandchildren, Ava Bailey and Wrenley DeFranco. He is also survived by his dear sister, Doris Arnett (David) of Lake Cormorant, MS, and his friend Josephine Wright Davis of Coffeeville, MS. His life was a testament to hard work, love, and devotion – qualities that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
